Covid-19: Tips for Cleaning and Sanitizing Detectors from Metrasens
Given the situation with Covid-19, Metrasens has been getting questions on how best to clean and sanitize our equipment in order for front line staff to remain safe while continuing to screen for risk items. Having an ability to clean and sanitize is an important part of our product features that is taken into consideration from the onset of product design through to in-field service and maintenance.
Below are several tips which will be useful to you at this time, and in general:
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
Ensure sufficient stock of personal protective equipment (PPE) including facemasks, N95 respirators, eye protection, disposable gloves and disposable gowns. This coronavirus can live for a period of time on hard surfaces such as our products’ aluminum extrusions where the products are often touched, and the controls (for products with exposed controls) where adjustments are made for audio, visual and sensitivity settings. This also includes our MRISM touch screen tablets used in connection with our MRI Safety entry door systems. These touch screen tablets can, and should, be operated using disposable rubber gloves.
Isopropyl alcohol is a topical antiseptic and sanitizing chemical often used for cleaning hard surfaces. It is a chemical also found in many disinfectant products. This chemical can be used to wipe down Metrasens products to keep them free of viruses and bacteria. When using isopropyl alcohol, we recommend you dampen a clean cloth to thoroughly cleanse product surfaces both before and after any touching of the surface. Disposable gloves should be worn at all times to protect your hands from getting dry and from unprotected contact with a surface that could have the virus on it. Make sure you wipe all components, including the base (for Cellsense, Cellsense Plus, Proscreen 200, Proscreen 500 and Proscreen 900 models of product).
As an alternative to isopropyl alcohol, disinfecting wipes are just as effective to keep the surfaces of Metrasens products clean. Ensure you are using wipes that are 70% alcohol, as there are alcohol free products on the market which will not be effective. Disposable rubber gloves should be worn at all times and when cleaning the surfaces of these products. Disinfecting wipes are the preferred product for use in cleaning MRISM touch screen tablets. Barrier film can be used on touch screen tablets and should also be cleaned before and after use with disinfecting wipes.
Metrasens products should be cleaned often to ensure staff safety at this time. Our recommendation is to clean both before and after you are required to handle the detectors, which includes touching controls, touching the surface, or moving the product.
